This pea is native to Central Asia. Its scientific name is Pisum sativum var. macrocarpum. Also known as ho lan tao, snow pea, chinnese pea, sugar pea. The plant can grow to a height of 2 meters. The fruit is an edible flattened pod, emerald green 5 to 8 cms. Its greatest nutritional value is in its concentration of vitamin C; since it covers half of what is recommended for a daily diet with this vitamin, much higher than that of a common pea. In addition, 35 ounces of this product contains approximately 42 calories, a very low amount if we compare it again with the common pea.
